In-ground trampolines in Belfast: the BERG InGround
BERG's InGround trampoline is set into the lawn, leaving a low raised edge above the grass. There is no ladder, and far less of it shows over a garden wall than a trampoline on legs with its net. It comes in three ranges (Favorit, Champion and Elite) and three shapes, and every size is sold with a safety net or without.
We deliver 40 InGround models to Belfast, from €339 to €1,949. Before you choose one, there are two Belfast questions to settle: is the garden big enough for a hole and its clearance, and will the ground drain.
Belfast ground: sleech, boulder clay and drainage
An InGround trampoline sits over a hollow in the lawn, so what the hollow is dug into matters. The Geological Survey of Northern Ireland's engineering geology map of Belfast shows two very different materials under the city.
The first is sleech, a soft and highly compressible estuarine clay. It lies under low-lying parts of the Lagan valley and around Belfast Lough. The Survey gives it as over 15 m thick in the docks area and 3 to 10 m thick in the inner city. The second is boulder clay, a stiff glacial till, which covers much of the rest.
Neither tells you about your own garden. BERG's requirement is that an in-ground trampoline has "adequate drainage" and that the ground-water level is checked, and the installer assesses both on site. Belfast gets roughly 940 to 980 mm of rain a year, on about 156 to 158 days, so it is a fair question to ask. Have the garden looked at first and choose the model second. If the answer is no, an above-ground trampoline needs no digging.
We do not publish hole sizes or drainage methods. Those come from BERG's manual and from the person doing the work. We also cannot advise on planning. If you are unsure, ask Belfast City Council's planning service before any digging starts. Read on in wind and ground in Belfast and who installs a trampoline in Belfast.
Small gardens: the InGround sizes up to 280cm
Belfast has the lowest share of detached homes and the highest share of flats of any council area in Northern Ireland, and many gardens here are short. The small InGround sizes are all Favorit. BERG's 2 m of clear space at the sides still applies around a trampoline set into the lawn, so measure the level ground and take the clearance off. More in trampolines for small Belfast gardens.

The three InGround ranges
| Range | Springs | Jumping mat | Protective edge | Frame warranty | InGround from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Favorit | SoloSpring | AirFlow | 20mm thick, 38cm wide | 8 years | €339 |
| Champion | TwinSpring | AirFlow Pro | 30mm thick, 38cm wide | 13 years | €779 |
| Elite | TwinSpring | AirFlow Pro | 30mm thick, 38cm wide | 10 years, 13 when registered | €1,109 |
The springs and the mat are the same on a Champion and an Elite. The Elite's frame tubing is heavier and its padding warranty is 5 years against the Champion's 2. All three ranges carry the CE mark and the GS mark (TÜV). The comparison page prices the same size in each range, and the full trampoline list shows each range in all its types.
Who an InGround suits
A family that wants the trampoline kept low, has ground that drains, and does not mind a low edge showing above the lawn. It is the only sunken type made in the Favorit range and the only one made as an oval.
Whether to have a net is your decision, and the trampoline is the same either way. A net still catches wind, so BERG's advice to take it off before a heavy storm applies here too.
If not an InGround
A FlatGround finishes level with the grass, with no edge at all. It starts at €699 and is made in Champion, Elite and Pro Bouncer. BERG does not make the Pro Bouncer as an InGround.
An above-ground trampoline starts at €449, always has a net and needs no groundwork.
Delivery to Belfast
The trampoline comes on a pallet through The Pallet Network and is left at the kerbside. Am-Transport of Larne covers Belfast and the Co. Antrim side. Allen Logistics of Moira covers the Co. Down side, including Holywood, Dundonald and Carryduff. You bring the boxes in and keep the pallet. Delivery is free, a stocked model is delivered within 48 hours and others typically take 7 to 10 days. See the delivery page.
We deliver. Someone else digs.
We supply and deliver and do not install. The groundwork is for an independent installer, landscaper or builder, who sees the garden and quotes you directly. If you would like an introduction, ring 028 3756 8930. It makes sense to line that person up before the trampoline arrives.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an in-ground trampoline go into Belfast clay?+
Sometimes, and only someone who has seen the garden can say. The Geological Survey of Northern Ireland maps soft estuarine clay, known as sleech, under low-lying parts of the Lagan valley and around Belfast Lough, and stiff boulder clay over much of the rest. BERG says an in-ground trampoline needs adequate drainage and a check of the ground-water level. An installer assesses both on site before you order.
Who digs the hole and fits the trampoline?+
An independent installer, a landscaper or a builder. We sell and deliver the trampoline and do not install it. Whoever does the work visits the garden, gives you their own price and follows BERG's manual. If you have nobody in mind, we can put you in touch with an independent installer.
Do I need to ask the council before digging?+
We cannot advise on planning. If you are unsure, ask Belfast City Council's planning service before any digging starts. Outside the city boundary, ask your own council.
What is the smallest BERG InGround trampoline?+
The Favorit InGround 200, a round trampoline 200cm (6.5ft) across, from €339 without a net. The Favorit also comes as a 270cm round and a 280cm rectangle. Champion and Elite InGround models start at 330cm.
Does an InGround trampoline have a safety net?+
It can. BERG sells each InGround size with a safety net, or without one under its SPORTS name. Both prices are in the table on this page. nidirect's advice for garden trampolines is always to use a net.
What does a BERG InGround trampoline cost?+
From €339 to €1,949 for the trampoline, delivered free to Belfast. The groundwork is a separate cost, quoted by whoever does it.
