Belfast parks and playgrounds: a family guide by area

A trampoline shop writing about public parks may seem odd. It is simple enough: families ask us where children can run about near them, and a good park is the answer more often than anything we sell. So here is a list by area, for the city and the towns around it.

The rule we kept to is that every place links to an official page, and we repeat only what that page says. Where a page names who looks after the park, we say so. Where we could confirm a park only as a name on Belfast City Council's list, we name it and describe nothing. Distances are approximate.

Checked 10 October 2026. Hours, closures and facilities change: follow the link for each park before you set out.

    North Belfast

The north of the city has the hill on its doorstep. Cave Hill and the castle grounds are the big day out.

    • Cave Hill Country Park

      Belfast City Council

Antrim Road, at the Innisfayle Park junction, BT15 5GR. Three waymarked trails: the Cavehill Trail of 4.5 miles, the Estate Trail of 2.4 miles and the Castle Trail of 0.8 miles. McArt's Fort is at the top. When we checked, the council's page carried a notice that part of the Cavehill Trail, between the Devil's Punchbowl and McArt's Fort, was closed because of erosion.

    • Belfast Castle Estate and the Cave Hill Adventurous Playground

      Belfast City Council

Antrim Road, BT15 5GR. The council's page lists the Cave Hill Adventurous Playground as open. It did not state ages, charges or booking on the pages we read, so check those with the council.

Also on the council's list: Waterworks, Alexandra Park, Grove Park, Woodvale Park. Each is a Belfast City Council park. We confirmed the names on the council's A to Z of parks and did not check their facilities, so look there for what each one has.

Council page: Belfast City Council's A to Z of parks. On this site: Trampolines in North Belfast.

    South Belfast

South Belfast has several of the city's best known council parks. We could confirm each of these as an entry on the council's list, but could not open the individual pages, so we name them and leave the detail to the council.

Also on the council's list: Ormeau Park, Botanic Gardens, Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park, Barnett Demesne, Musgrave Park, Lagan Meadows, Cherryvale Park. Each is a Belfast City Council park. We confirmed the names on the council's A to Z of parks and did not check their facilities, so look there for what each one has.

    East Belfast

The play park in the grounds of Stormont is the one we could check most fully.

    • Mo Mowlam Play Park, Stormont Estate

Near the main entrance to the estate on the Upper Newtownards Road. Entry is free. nidirect lists over 40 pieces of equipment, including a wheelchair-accessible swing and twin cableways. Stated hours are 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Sunday, varying with daylight and closing 30 minutes before the estate. There is a Quiet Hour every Sunday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

    • C.S. Lewis Square

Where the Connswater and Comber Greenways meet. Seven statues by Maurice Harron, beside the EastSide Visitor Centre. A square to walk through and look at, not a playground.

Also on the council's list: Victoria Park, Orangefield Park, Belmont Park, Tullycarnet Park, Gilnahirk Park. Each is a Belfast City Council park. We confirmed the names on the council's A to Z of parks and did not check their facilities, so look there for what each one has.

    West Belfast

In the west, the Falls Park has a refurbished play park and Colin Glen has the forest.

Falls Road, BT12 7PF. The council's page describes a refurbished play park and a free outdoor gym, with a parkrun on Saturdays at 9.30am. A new 3G pitch and pavilion were under construction when we checked.

    • Colin Glen

Not a council park and not on the council's list. Discover Northern Ireland describes a 200 acre forest park with what it calls Ireland's only official Gruffalo Trail. The River Entrance is at 163 Stewartstown Road, Dunmurry, BT17 0HW. There are also a Leisure Entrance at 115 Blacks Road, BT10 0NF and a Mountain Entrance at 28 Colin Glen Road, BT17 0LR.

Also on the council's list: Dunville Park, Dunmurry Park, Lenadoon Millennium Park, Springfield Park and Dam, Páirc Nua Chollann. Each is a Belfast City Council park. We confirmed the names on the council's A to Z of parks and did not check their facilities, so look there for what each one has.
